Network Appliance, Inc. (NTAP) manufactures and supports high performance network data storage devices which provide fast, simple, reliable and cost-effective file service for data- intensive environments.|
The company pioneered the concept of the network appliance, an extension of the industry trend toward specialized devices that perform a specific function in the network, similar to the development of the router for network communications. NTAP believes that it is the leading supplier of network attached data storage and access devices, called filers.
Initially, the company marketed its filers primarily in the UNIX environment in high technology companies seeking to achieve leading edge performance. Thereafter, it significantly expanded its market by supporting heterogeneous Windows NT, UNIX and Web platforms. More recently, NTAP began marketing its products to users of leading database software applications, such as applications offered by Oracle Corp. and Sybase, Inc.
NTAP's filer products include the NetApp F840c, a large-scale clustered enterprise filer providing maximized data availability in mission-critical environments for large enterprises; the NetApp F840, a large-scale enterprise filer providing an ideal solution for enterprise consolidation; the NetApp F820c, a clustered enterprise filer providing maximized data availability in mission- critical environments for midrange enterprises; the NetApp F820, an enterprise filer for small- to medium-sized enterprises allowing for the consolidation of heterogeneous data for entry- level Internet service providers (ISPs), application service providers, storage service providers, and commercial, as well as scientific, applications; the NetApp F740, an entry-level enterprise filer providing department-level performance and productivity for applications such as software development, computer-aided design, simulation applications, and medium-sized ISPs; and the NetApp F85, a remote office/workgroup filer with multiplatform capability--ideal for remote offices/branch offices as well as small- to medium-sized workgroups and ISPs.
