Adelphia Communications Corp. (ADLAC) operates in the telecommunications industry with cable television and local telephone operations. Adelphia's operations consist of providing telecommunications services primarily over networks, which are commonly referred to as broadband networks because they can transmit large quantities of voice, video and data by way of digital or analog signals. As of Dec. 31, 2000, Adelphia owned or managed cable television systems with broadband networks that passed in front of 9,020,540 homes and served 5,741,368 basic subscribers.

On Oct. 1, 1999, ADLAC acquired Century Communications Corp. through a merger whereby Century was merged with and into a wholly owned subsidiary of Adelphia, Arahova Communications, Inc.

Also on Oct. 1, 1999 ADLAC acquired FrontierVision Partners, L.P. and Harron Communications Corp. At that time, FrontierVision had approximately 710,000 basic subscribers primarily in Ohio, Kentucky, New England and Virginia and Harron had approximately 296,000 basic subscribers primarily in Southeastern Pennsylvania, Michigan, Massachusetts and New Hampshire.

Cable systems owned by the company are located in 32 states and Puerto Rico, and are organized into six core clusters: Los Angeles, PONY (Western Pennsylvania, Ohio and Western New York), New England, Florida, Virginia and Colorado Springs. The company systems are located primarily in suburban areas of large- and medium-sized cities within the 50 largest television markets. As of Dec. 31, 2000, the broadband networks for the company Systems passed in front of 8,757,938 homes and served 5,547,690 basic subscribers.

ADLAC also provides management and consulting services to other partnerships, corporations and limited liability companies engaged in the ownership and operation of cable television systems.

INCORPORATED in Delaware July 1, 1986 (as Hyperion Telecommunications, Inc.), and on that date acquired all of the capital stk. of Adelphia Communications Corp. (now Adelphia Cablevision, Inc.), Clear Cablevision, Inc., Indiana Cablevision, Inc., Western Reserve Cablevision, Inc. and International Cablevision, Inc. Present title adopted Mar. 30, 1999.
